PENTICTON - What started with a stolen pickup in Penticton turned into a police chase through the Okanagan to Peachland last night.

Penticton RCMP Cpl. Don Wrigglesworth says a pickup was reported stolen at about 9:50 p.m., Oct. 24. The 2002 F250 Ford was stolen from the rear parking lot of Cue’s Gameroom.

The truck had been locked but a spare key had been left under the seat, Wrigglesworth says.

Officers spotted the stolen pickup on Vancouver Avenue, but the driver sped off at a high rate of speed down Front Street, heading towards Summerland.

The truck was seen in Summerland before making it's way to Peachland were a spike belt was deployed near Seclusion Bay.

Wrigglesworth says the suspect vehicle hit ran over the spike belt at around 2 a.m., left the road, went down an embankment and into a ditch.

A man was seeing fleeing the truck. A police dog picked up his trail and tracked the suspect for about kilometre before losing his scent.

A trucker in the area said a man tried to climb into the back of his flat deck while he was driving down the highway in the area.

The suspect got away and Wrigglesworth says investigators think the man may have succeeded in getting a ride away from the scene.
