PENTICTON - The Penticton Vees needed overtime, but not much of it, Friday, Oct. 9, to keep their win streak alive. Scott Conway was the hero, just 13-seconds into OT, as the Vees came from behind to beat the West Kelowna Warriors 4-3 at the SOEC.

Though Conway was the OT hero, Tyson Jost stole the show, scoring all three of the Vees regulation goals and finished with a game-high four points. Conway also picked up two assists and finished with three points. Zach Driscoll won in his home debut, kicking out 25 shots to improve to 2-0.

Garrett Forster, Liam Blackburn and Kylar Hope scored for the Warriors, who dropped their second straight game in OT. Forbes Ploszaj was tagged with the loss for the Tribe, stopping 29 of 33 shots.

For the second straight game, the Vees conceded the opening goal, as Forster put the visitors ahead just shy of the 15-minute mark. Driscoll stopped the first shot but the rebound bounced out to Forster who made no mistake at 14:49.

Jost, or better yet his leg, got the Vees back on even terms late in the first period. Dante Fabbro fired a shot from the point that bounced off the Vees Captain and in at 17:37 to tie it 1-1.

The Captain put the Vees ahead for the first time midway through the second and did so in a much more conventional manner. Conway walked out of the corner and fed the puck across the goal mouth to Jost for his second at 10:15.

Penticton ran into penalty trouble after that and the Warriors, who had the second-best power-play in the league entering Friday’s game, capitalized. Liam Blackburn walked off the wall and wired a shot over Driscoll’s shoulder at 16:52.

Then it went from bad to worse, as Kylar Hope scored on a breakaway half a minute later. Hope got in behind the Vees defense and then popped the puck up high over Driscoll at 17:28. The Warriors turning a one-goal deficit into a one-goal lead in thirty-six seconds.

The Vees power-play wasn’t to be upstaged, as Jost completed the natural hat-trick in the opening moments of the third. On a power-play that carried over from the second, the Captain weaved his way into the deep slot and sent a dart to the top corner just twenty-six seconds in; the game all knotted up at threes.

The Vees did have a chance to win it in regulation, as they had a four-minute power-play late. After Jost took a stick in the face, the Vees were handed a lengthy man-advantage but they couldn’t manufacture a winner. Their best chance came off the stick of Owen Sillinger but he rang his shot off the pipe from in close.

To OT we went and right off the opening face-off, Conway took the game into his own hands, skating down the middle and firing a rising wrist-shot over Ploszaj’s shoulder thirteen seconds in; his ninth, the game-winner.

With his four point night Friday, Tyson Jost sits atop of the BCHL scoring race, with 21 points in 10 games. His running mate is right behind him, as Conway is second with nine goals and 19 points. The Vees are now 2-0 against the Warriors this season and a perfect 3-0 at the SOEC.

The Vees (9-1-0-0) hit the road tomorrow, when the visit the Chilliwack Chiefs (4-3-1-2) at the Prospera Centre in the Fraser Valley; face-off is 7 pm.
