Penticton open for business: ranking

PENTICTON - Penticton has been ranked as one of the province’s top three entrepreneurial cities, and amongst the top 20 in Canada.

The Canadian Federation of Independent Business released a report called Canada’s Entrepreneurial Commutities which studied municipalities with populations of 20,000 or more and ranked them based on 14 indicators including, industrial diversity, representation of scale and growth of business ownership, actions of local government on taxation and regulation, and growth plans.

“We are open for business, and this ranking reinforces the City of Penticton’s commitment to create economic opportunity within the community,” mayor Garry Litke says in a media release. “Small business is the engine of our economy, and initiating Penticton economic investment zones and keeping tax ratios competitive help entrepreneurs on the path to prosperity.”

Penticton jumped five places this year, landing the twentieth place out of 121 mid-sized communities — the top city earned only 12 points higher than Penticton.

Chilliwack and Kelowna earned the top two positions in B.C., while Vernon placed thirty-second and Kamloops forty-eighth.
