MONTREAL - A brief look at Pierre Karl Peladeau, who stepped down as leader of the Parti Quebecois on Monday, less than a year after taking charge of the sovereigntist party:
Education: Philosophy degree from Universite du Quebec a Montreal and law degree from Universite de Montreal.
Business: Longtime Quebecor Inc. executive and now the media conglomerate's controlling shareholder.
Legislature: First elected in Saint-Jerome in 2014.
Leader: Elected head of the PQ on May 15, 2015 with 57.6 per cent of the vote.
Personal: Father of three, including two young children with well-known TV personality Julie Snyder. Couple married last year but separated in January.
Quote: "I am forced to make a choice, an agonizing choice, between my family and my political project, our political project, which is shared by so many people. I have chosen my family." — Peladeau at news conference on Monday as he announced his resignation.
