Osoyoos firefighters battle stubborn blaze

FILE PHOTO - Osoyoos firefighters battled a fire in a vacant residence in the community overnight.

OSOYOOS - Osoyoos firefighters spent several hours battling a fire in an unoccupied residence last night.

Fire Chief Rick Jones says crews spent approximately four hours on scene after being called to fire on 7 Avenue in Osoyoos around 11:30 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 16.

Jones says sawdust insulation made the fire difficult to put out. A crew was on scene again early this morning, Oct. 17.

“It was one of those fires. The reason it took so long to put out was because of the sawdust,” he says.

The building was unoccupied at the time.

Jones says no one was injured in the blaze, which is under investigation.
