West Kelowna Council is considering changes to existing secondary suite and carriage house regulations.

The City is hosting an Open House to seek public input on the proposed changes which include:

  • Permitting secondary suites within the City’s compact housing zones located throughout the City, as well as select Comprehensive Development Zones located in Rose Valley Estates and Mission Ridge (must meet certain criteria).
  • Allowing secondary suite entrances to face the same road as the main entrance to the house.
  • Reducing the requirement for screening along parcel boundaries on parcels with carriage houses.
  • Removing the requirement for shared access holder, easement holder or strata council sign-off for suites or carriage houses accessed from private roads.

Council first implemented secondary suite regulations in 2010 and allowed carriage houses beginning in 2015. Find out more at westkelownacity.ca/secondarysuites and westkelownacity.ca/carriagehouses.
