PENTICTON - Last week’s unexpected heavy snowfall was an unwelcome taste of winter for many of us here in the valley, but operators at Apex Mountain Resort aren’t complaining.
“We currently have an 80 centimetre base, 72 centimetres of which has fallen in the last nine days,” said Guest Service and Events Manager Emily Childs.
“It’s very cold right now, but we expect temperatures to warm through the week, with more snow on the way."
The resort will open to the public on Saturday, December 6. Tickets go on sale at 8:30 a.m. and lifts will be open by 9.
Childs said the resort has also been busy making snow. A new feature this year is a beginner terrain park. The resort also acquired a new winch cat that will provide extra grooming for steeper runs.
Ski teams have been training on the mountain since November 22. Childs said the resort will also be selling tickets online in the near future.
