Shumway Lake south of Kamloops will play host to sprint canoe and kayak teams aiming to represent the province at the Canada Summer Games in Quebec this August.

The training squad selection trials will feature 5km, 1,000m, 500m and 200m races sanctioned by CanoeKayak B.C. On both Saturday and Sunday this weekend. Five Kamloops athletes will be competing for a spot on Team B.C. alongside athletes from across the province.

Rowing and canoeing are two of 17 event categories scheduled for the summer games in Sherbrooke, QC. Aug. 2-17.

Shumway Lake is the official site of the Kamloops Rowing Club, Kamloops Canoe and Kayak Club and the Kamloops Waterski Club. The lake will be the scene of several other events and competitions this summer, including Dragon Boat races for the B.C. Seniors Games and the multi-discipline Kamloops Performance Legacy Games.
