Old dynamite blown up by RCMP bomb squad in Kelowna

April 13, 2015 - 12:41 PM

KELOWNA – Several sticks of dynamite found in Kelowna’s Joe Rich area on Sunday have been destroyed, but the police are concerned there may be more of the explosive out there.

RCMP say they were called to the 8000-block of Sun Valley Road around 6:05 a.m., April 12 to a report of found explosives.

“Police attended and located several sticks of the suspected dynamite, in what appeared to be a deteriorated condition,” Corp. Joe Duncan says in a media release. “The RCMP Explosive Disposal Unit attended and confirmed the sticks were in fact dynamite and disposed of them.”

The RCMP think there may be more dynamite unaccounted for.

Despite a search of the area by the RCMP helicopter and a police dog no more dynamite was found.

“Kelowna RCMP have a number of tips and the investigation is ongoing,” Duncan says.
