OKANAGAN FILM FUNDAMENTALS SYMPOSIUM SHINES SPOTLIGHT ON LOCAL INDUSTRY

KELOWNA - Canadian indie film NUMB, shot in the Okanagan, will have a special screening event across the country on March 2 in Landmark theatres as part of the Canadian Indie Film Series and opens theatrically March 4 nation wide, including Kelowna’s own Landmark Cinemas Paramount.

The screening coincides with the Okanagan Film Fundamentals (OFF) symposium hosted by the Okanagan Film Commission, which will launch some exciting new filmmaking careers right here in the Okanagan. OFF is at the Cove Lakeside in West Kelowna from March 3-6. It aims to helping aspiring filmmakers kick-start their careers.

Jon Summerland, Okanagan Film Commissioner comments, “NUMB shows the growing success of our local industry. We are very pleased that the film is opening during OFF and that producers from NUMB will be sharing, through film/sound bites (YouTube style), why they chose the Okanagan as the location to shoot their film - and how much they loved shooting here.” He continues, “We encourage OFF attendees and Okanagan movie-goers to see the film as part of their OFF experience. They’ll see the Okanagan as they’ve never seen it before, playing itself as a location to full dramatic effect.”

When a couple in financial distress discover GPS coordinates that promise to lead to stolen gold they must partner with a pair of mysterious hitchhikers to enter the remote winter wilderness to recover the coins.

The film is directed by Jason R. Goode, whose short film Late was selected by Telefilm Canada for its Perspectives Canada Program at the Cannes Marche du Film.  The cast includes: Jamie Bamber (Battlestar Galactica, Law & Order UK); Marie Avgeropoulos (Tracers, The 100); Aleks Paunovic (iZombie, This Means War); Stefanie von Pfetten (Cracked); and Colin Cunningham (Falling Skies). The film is written by Andre Harden. Canadian indie start-up A71 Entertainment is distributing NUMB in Canada.

NUMB had its world premiere at the prestigious Busan International Film Festival in South Korea and was the Closing Gala presentation at the Whistler Film Festival.

The OFF symposium is filling fast, with only a couple of weeks left to register. Info and Registration at  www.okanaganfilmundamentals.com.
