Okanagan College launches an award-winning virtual tour for prospective students

Competing against hundreds of submissions from colleges and universities across North America, Okanagan College’s interactive video tour for prospective students won both gold and bronze medals at The Education Digital Marketing Awards.

The recently launched video, “What It’s Really Like,” won gold in the Digital Video category and bronze in the Miscellaneous Interactive Media category.

Hosted by third-year business student Drew Vincent, the virtual tour gives viewers an inside look at Okanagan College life. It walks through a variety of the College’s features, including program offerings and accessing tuition and financial aid.

“The high energy video tour offers viewers the functionality to jump to different parts of the tour at any time,” says Inga Wheeler, Manager, Student Information and Transitions.

Okanagan College partnered with Kelowna-based Hustream Technologies Inc. to create the video.

“Okanagan College was one of our very first customers five years ago,” says Peter Matejcek, CEO and Managing Director of Creative at Hustream.

“Since then, we’ve worked together on several projects and the entire College staff has shown great vision in helping create interactive videos that are at the forefront of today’s Internet video technology,” he says.

Initial response from students has been great, they really like the interactive features and the ability to watch what interests them,” says Wheeler.

The Education Digital Marketing Awards, presented by the Higher Education Marketing Report, recognizes exceptional educational websites, digital content, electronic communications, mobile media and social media. It granted awards in 30 categories and 14 education groups. Award certificates were given to those entrants whose programs and materials display exceptional quality, creativity and message effectiveness.
