MONTE LAKE - One person is dead following a head-on collision near Monte Lake.

The crash between two vehicles happened Saturday, March 25 around 2:30 p.m. on Highway 97, according to a media release from the RCMP.

Investigators say the crash involved a 2000 Buick Century and a 2013 GMC pick-up truck.

The Buick Century was northbound at the time of the collision and was driven by an 85-year-old West Kelowna woman. She was the only person in the car and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The GMC pick-up truck was southbound and being driven by a 27-year-old man from Kamloops who was accompanied by a 23-year-old Kamloops woman, neither of whom suffered any physical injuries.

“Initial scene examination noted that the collision occurred in a curve with the elderly woman having encroached into the opposite lane,” Cpl. Dan Moskaluk says in the release.

Weather and road conditions were not considered factors.

North Okanagan Traffic Services and the B.C. Coroners Service continue to investigate.
