Nominations open for worst roads in B.C.

Aberdeen Drive just west of Highway 5A is in very poor condition after a series of freeze-thaw cycles this year. Will it get any votes as the worst road in B.C.?

KAMLOOPS — The voting has begun and while a Kamloops road has not yet cracked the BCAA top-10 list of worst roads there is still time to nominate one, whether it be because of potholes, poor layout or you think it’s just down right dangerous.

Westside Road, which runs along the west side of Okanagan Lake, has secured three of the top-10 spots as people vote for different stretches of the 65 km roadway. It has earned the title of worst road two years running.

Silver Star Road in Vernon is also at the top of the list, while 40 Street Northwest in Salmon Arm is also getting a lot of nods. Clearwater Valley Road in Clearwater is popular among the haters as well.

A road or two in Kamloops could be considered for the list. Several streets and intersections in Kamloops which top the ICBC list for number of collisions between 2008-2012 have only received superficial fixes.

The intersection of 8 Street, Fortune Avenue and Tranquille Road continues to be a high collision area, while Westsyde Road is known for speeding and pedestrian collisions. Halston Avenue is also known for speeding and collisions, and as a result, has been targeted by RCMP with enforcement in recents months.

So which roads do you think should be on the worst roads list?
