No break from heat and sun this weekend in Kamloops

It was a beautiful morning in Kamloops, but that could give way any moment to smoky skies.

KAMLOOPS - Expect this oppressive heat to continue all weekend with temperatures forecast to stay well above 30 Celsius in the Tournament Capital.

Environment Canada says we should expect a mix of sun and cloud today, July 27, with a high of 32 C with 20 km/h winds this afternoon which will return in the evening before an expected low of 16 C and a risk of a thunderstorm. The weather office has also added special air quality statement in effect for the South Thompson, North Thompson and Shuswap calling for a return of smoky skies due to the many forest fires burning in the area.

The weather will not help firefighters, however, because there's no rain and barely a cloud in the forecast all weekend. On Friday, expect more sun and clear skies with temperatures reaching 33 C with an overnight low of 15 C and the weekend should be more of the same. Saturday is your weekend high at a scorching 35 C and 32 C on Sunday.

So far, Environment Canada's forecast is calling for the hot sunny weather to continue into next week. We'll have your next weather update Monday morning.
