KELOWNA - Kelowna will be further attracting film and animation stars, as council unanimously approved the building of a state of the art production studio this afternoon.

“This will be the missing link we have been looking for,” Mayor Colin Basran says. “This studio will have a huge impact in our film industry and in future productions coming to Kelowna.”

The 2,000 square metre building will be located at 3510 Spectrum Ct. near the Kelowna International Airport. Eagle Creek Studios purchased the property last year. The film production company is based in Burnaby.

There will be office space in the front of the building, while the film studio will be at the rear of the property. The bulk of the building will be open space, leaving room for semi-permanent T.V. sets.

Mayor Basran says while he was in Vancouver recently he met with several animation and film companies who are interested in bringing their business to Okangan.

“The interest in Kelowna is real,” said Mayor Basran. “This is a result of lots of good work done in the community.”

The multi-phase film production studio will have two buildings, however only the first has been brought forward to council for approval.
