New Kamloops school board chair elected

KAMLOOPS - Meghan Wade is the new chair of the Kamloops-Thompson school board after challenging incumbent chair Denise Harper in a vote last night, Dec. 13.

A vote for chair can be held annually, but school superintendent Alison Sidow says it’s the first time she’s seen one in her four years with School District 73. However, she says it’s not too unusual around the province.

Only the nine publicly elected trustees participate in the vote for board chair. Sidow says it was a secret ballot and doesn’t know what the result was, only the scrutinizers do.

Wade took over directly after the election last night and will hold the position for at least one year.

“Once the election is complete and the new chair has been announced then the gavel is handed to the new chair,” Sidow says.
