National Seniors Day 2013

Kamloops, BC – The City of Kamloops is proud to pay tribute to the seniors who have helped build our community. National Seniors Day is an occasion for all Canadians to appreciate and celebrate seniors.

On Tuesday, October 1st, 2013 the City of Kamloops will be joining in this National celebration by hosting a senior’s tea and social from 9:00 am to 12:00 noon at the Tournament Capital Centre. Residents are invited to join at 10:00 am for a warm welcome by Mayor Peter Milobar and Councillor Pat Wallace.

In addition to the tea and social there will opportunities where seniors can watch or try some physical activity and sport demonstrations such as Tai Chi, Pickleball and Table Tennis. There will also be information booths from Interior Health - Flu Clinics and Home Health, United Way - Access Kamloops, Seniors Advisory Committee, and Keep on Moving. TC Ambassadors will also be available on site for facility walking tours.

“By attending Seniors Day, my goal is to encourage dialogue with seniors while they are still active on how to set-up their homes, how to stay active safely, and how to access our programming,” said Karen Cooper, Practice Lead for Physiotherapy in Home Health with Interior Health, who will be in attendance at National Seniors Day.

This is a free event and all seniors are welcome.  For large groups of 10 or more, please RSVP to Nicole Beauregard at 250-828-3653 or nbeauregard@kamloops.ca.
