UFC 178, once destined for Toronto, to be held at MGM Grand Garden Arena

TORONTO - UFC 178, shifted to Las Vegas from Toronto, will take place at the MGM Grand Garden Arena, the UFC announced Tuesday.

The main event of the Sept. 27 card is a rematch between UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon (Bones) Jones and No. 1 contender Alexander Gustafsson.

The Kings of Leon had been booked into the MGM venue that night but have moved the Vegas stop of their "Mechanical Bull" outside to The Lot along the Las Vegas Strip when it headlines the Boulevard Brew Fest.

Jones (20-1) defeated Gustafsson (16-2) in a hard-fought five-round decision when the two met in Toronto last September at UFC 165.

UFC president Dana White announced the shift to Las Vegas from the Air Canada Centre earlier this month, saying it was a business decision.

"Let's just say Vegas made a lot of sense," he said at the time. "When you have big fights, there are some cities that want big fights worse than other cities do. And I'm not saying that’s the case with Toronto but Vegas really wanted this fight."

He said at the time he could not announce the exact venue because the deal was not done yet.
