KELOWNA – A Canadian Forces surveillance aircraft was circling Kelowna International Airport this morning.

The crew of the Lockheed CP 140 Aurora was training over Kelowna for roughly 90 minutes, according to Jasmine Patrick at the airport, who says the plane is used to hunt for submarines.

The military aircraft is also used for domestic and international surveillance, counter-terrorism and smuggling, as well as to monitor fishing fleets.

Patrick says the Aurora is in town for circuit training only and to her knowledge, there are no foreign submarines in Okanagan Lake.
