Most actively traded companies on the TSX

TORONTO - Some of the most active companies traded Thursday on the Toronto Stock Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (14,486.83, up 174.76 points):

Bombardier Inc. (TSX:BBD.B). Aerospace. Up 15 cents, or 4.13 per cent, to $3.78 on 7.6 million shares.

MBAC Fertilizer Corp. (TSX:MBC). Agriculture. Down three cents, or 21.43 per cent, to 11 cents on 7.2 million shares.

Cenovus Energy Inc. (TSX:CVE). Oil and gas. Up $1.70, or 6.47 per cent, to $27.97 on 5.1 million shares. The the oilsands producer beat analyst estimates on several key measures in the third quarter, including cash flow per share at $1.30, 15 cents ahead of estimates. Operating earnings came in at 49 cents a share, eight cents better than forecast.

Chaparral Gold Corp. (TSX:CHL). Miner. Unchanged at 60 cents on 4.3 million shares.

Air Canada (TSX:AC.B). Airline. Up 30 cents, or 3.76 per cent to $8.27 on 4 million shares.

Suncor Energy Inc. (TSX:SU). Oil and gas. Up $1.08, or 2.85 per cent, to $38.98 on 3.6 million shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Husky Energy Inc. (TSX:HSE). Oil and gas. Down 11 cents, or 0.39 per cent, to $27.79 on two million shares. The Calgary-based oil and gas producer says the cost of developing the first phase of its Sunrise oilsands project in northern Alberta has risen by nearly 19 per cent, with startup expected toward the end of this year. The company said Thursday the price tag of the project's first 60,000 barrel per day phase is now $3.2 billion, up from its previous estimate of $2.7 billion.

Rogers Communications Inc. (TSX:RCI.B). Communication services. Down 63 cents, or 1.45 per cent, to $42.80 on 1.4 million shares. The company handed in adjusted earnings of $405 million or 78 cents a share — six cents below estimates.

Shaw Communications Inc. (TSX:SJR.B). Communications services. Up five cents, or 0.18 per cent, at $27.75. Shaw said it earned $192 million or 40 cents per share in the three months ended Aug. 31, up from $117 million or 24 cents per share a year earlier and better than estimates of 37 cents per share. Revenue rose by 1.4 per cent to $1.26 billion, slightly below estimates of $1.27 billion.
