Most actively traded companies on the TSX

TORONTO - Some of the most active companies traded Thursday on the Toronto Stock Exchange:

Toronto Stock Exchange (14,760.64, down 44.80 points):

Spartan Energy Corp. (TSX:SPE). Oil and gas. Down eight cents, or 2.34 per cent, to $3.34 on 8 million shares.

Talisman Energy Inc. (TSX:TLM). Oil and gas. Down 34 cents, or 3.61 per cent, to $9.09 on 4.9 million shares.

Surge Energy Inc. (TSX:SGY). Oil and gas. Down 13 cents, or 1.87 per cent, to $6.81 on 4.6 million shares.

B2Gold Corp. (TSX:BTO). Miner. Up five cents, or 2.16 per cent, to $2.37 on 4.6 million shares.

Yamana Gold Inc. (TSX:YRI). Miner. Up 27 cents, or 4.10 per cent, to $6.86 on 4.4 million shares.

RB Energy Inc. (TSX:RBI). Oil and gas. Down three cents, or 19.35 per cent, to 12.5 cents on 4.3 million shares.

Companies reporting major news:

Canadian Pacific Railway (TSX:CP) Transportation. Up $11.89, or 5.34 per cent, to $234.70 on one million shares. The company said it can double its profits and drive its revenues to $10 billion over the next four years. CEO Hunter Harrison said CP is aiming at a two-fold increase in earnings per share between this year and 2018.

SNC-Lavalin (TSX:SNC). Engineering. Up 31 cents, or 0.59 per cent, to $52.42 on 435,783 shares. The company has sold its concession rights at the permanent home of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra, a 2,100-seat concert hall that was completed in 2011. The buyer is Industrial Alliance Insurance of Quebec, one of Canada's largest life insurance companies. Financial terms weren't disclosed by SNC.
