KELOWNA – The man who died after falling from a balcony in Kelowna over the weekend has been identified on social media.

Brendan Burge, 24, of West Kelowna was at a St. Patrick's Day gathering at the Lofts, an 11-storey building on Ellis Street, when he accidentally fell from a fifth floor balcony to his death around sometime before 10 p.m. March 17, according to RCMP Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

“Investigators have confirmed that a lone male had fallen from a balcony onto the building's protruding second-floor balcony,” he said. “At this time, police do not believe that foul play is involved in the man’s death.”

The B.C. Coroners Service have not released the identity of the victim but tributes on social media show him as a father and former high level junior hockey player.

The former Salmon Arm Secondary student, who has a young daughter, had played for the Columbia Valley Rockies and the Revelstoke Grizzlies.
