UPDATE: Man in hospital after crashing bicycle during police chase

KELOWNA - A suspect being chased by RCMP in connection with a possible theft at a parking garage on Manhattan Drive has been taken to hospital after crashing his bicycle.

The suspect was allegedly "rummaging" through vehicles in a parking garage of a residential building and fled on a bicycle, according to Cpl. Bill Parmar. He was spotted by a police helicopter that was already in the air and members of the RCMP gave chase.

The suspect fled down Graham St. with a member of the RCMP in pursuit before making a right turn from Graham St. onto Cawston Ave.

“Another member (of RCMP) was coming up the street, the cyclist cut in front of the member trying to get around him onto the sidewalk and it looks like he might have caught some ice and he went over the corner of the police car.”

RCMP is trying to ascertain exactly what happened and Traffic Services are investigating.

The 28-year-old man is wanted on an outstanding warrant for Breach of Undertaking. He was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Three vehicles in the parking garage were found to be damaged and a quantity of property believed to have been stolen from the residence has been recovered by police.

The 28-year-old suspect faces potential charges of theft, mischief, possession of break-in instruments and possession of stolen property.

He will be held in custody to appear on his outstanding charge.
