WEST KELOWNA - An Alberta man is facing charges after he found passed out behind the wheel of his car in the middle of Highway 97 in West Kelowna early this morning.

Just before 3 a.m., Feb. 27, a motorist passed a black Ford Escort stopped in the left lane of Highway 97 near Hudson Road, according to an RCMP media release.

The motorist stopped to check on the man behind the wheel of the stopped car and found the 49-year-old driver was passed out, RCMP say. The motorist called police and helped direct traffic around the car stopped in the middle of the road.

Emergency crews arrived and were able to wake the passed out man.

Police seized 500 grams of what’s believed to be methamphetamine and 300 grams of suspected cocaine.

The suspect has been released from custody and is due back in court May 20.

RCMP aren't saying what charges he faces.
