KELOWNA – A Kelowna man faces possible weapons charges after allegedly brandishing a handgun and threatening to kill himself downtown over the weekend.
Const. Jesse O’Donaghey says the 23-year-old fled the area near Bernard Avenue late Saturday morning when members of the public intervened. Police conducted a search of the area and found him in the 700 block of Saucier Avenue.
O’Donaghey says the man did not threaten any members of the public and was taken into custody without incident.
There were no injuries however the man was taken to Kelowna General Hospital for assessment.
He faces possible criminal charges of carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose and unauthorized possession of a weapon.
O’Donaghey says the handgun does not appear to have been stolen but the man did not have the appropriate permits.
He was released and will appear in court September 11.
