SILVER STAR - A man has been transported to hospital by air ambulance following an avalanche at Silver Star Mountain Resort.
A media release from the ski hill says the incident occurred just after noon today, March 20, on a double black diamond run located on Silver Star's Putnam Creek.
The release states the man was airlifted by B.C. Air Ambulance and was the only person involved in the incident.
The Putnam Creek area of Silver Star is now closed and will remain closed until further notice. The resort says the isothermal avalanche was caused by warming temperatures.
Avalanche Canada issued a special public warning for recreational backcountry users on Monday that remains in place for much of British Columbia and Alberta. It says dramatic temperature increases in the provinces are increasing the likelihood of avalanches at a time when many people are heading into the mountains.
