Original Publication Date April 18, 2015 - 10:15 AM

MONTREAL - Canada's ambassador to France Lawrence Cannon has denied the reports that he will return to Quebec to run as a Conservative party candidate in the next federal election.

On his twitter account, Cannon said that he is denying the report by Montreal's La Presse newspaper that he would seek the nomination in the Quebec City riding of Louis-Hebert.

Cannon wrote that he was happy to continue his mandate as ambassador in Paris.

He was first named to the position in 2012.

Cannon served as Harper's Quebec Lieutenant from 2006 to 2008, and as Foreign Affairs Minister from 2008 to 2011.

He was defeated in the 2011 federal election.
