KAMLOOPS – For many in Kamloops Saturday was a sad day. The last edition of the Kamloops Daily News was published and delivered.

Ironically there was a scramble to newsstands around the city Saturday morning.

People who don’t subscribe and get the paper delivered to their homes, had to race around town to get a copy of the 80-year-old newspaper’s final edition.

Glacier Media, who owns the newspaper, cited financial reasons for shutting down the operation. The revenue streams included subscriptions and advertising, including classified ads.

Many in the community were shocked when Glacier announced on Monday that the newspaper would be shuttered.

Social media was a buzz as the last paper left the printer and hit the streets.

People offered well wishes and goodbyes to the 55 staffers losing their jobs.
