Lake Country choose your time and place to vote on rail corridor

LAKE COUNTRY - By taking a few minutes to look ahead at voting options, Lake Country residents can pick the most convenient time and place to cast their vote for April’s referendum to borrow up to $2.6 million for the 50 per cent purchase of the Okanagan Rail Corridor within District boundaries.

“Local governments remain committed to acquisition of the rail corridor based on the understanding that CN is a private corporation with registered title to the corridor land and the legal rights to sell it,” said Michael Mercer, Director of Engineering and Environmental Services. “The referendum is proceeding as planned on April 25.”

The District is providing a voting opportunity in each of the four wards during five advance voting dates, April 15, 16, 17, 20 and 21, and one location on general voting day, April 25.

“We’ve increased the number of voting locations from those that were offered in the 2014 election based on feedback from residents,” says Willene Perez, Deputy Chief Election Officer. “It’s important for citizens to take part in the democratic process and we want to offer ample voting opportunities to ensure residents can have their say.”

All electors must register at the time of voting by providing two pieces of ID, one with a signature, and signing a declaration. Photo ID is not required.

You may vote as a resident elector if:

·         you are a Canadian citizen
·         have lived in BC for at least 6 months
·         have lived in Lake Country for at least 30 days and
