Ki-Low-Na Friendship Society is a little different. Instead of the traditional Christmas turkey or ham dinner other non-profit agencies offer, Ki-Low-Na serves buffalo for their traditional Feed the People complimentary dinner for those in need on Christmas Eve.

And, Event Coordinator Kathleen Bray said, they do it for a very good reason.

"They get turkey at all the churches," she said. "There are four different church dinners and the Gospel Mission. There's turkey all through the season. By Christmas Eve, they've all been turkeyed right out."

The organization, however, is not volunteered right out. Ki-Low-Na would love more volunteers for the Christmas Eve event. Tasks include, but are not limited to, waiting tables, making sure everybody has coffee and tea, washing dishes and even mashing tables in preparation for dinner.

Most of all, Bray said, they'll help diners feel like family.

"The more volunteers, the merrier," she said. "You get to sit with people and walk around and talk to people. You get to visit. (Volunteers) will all wear Santa hats and put on the cheery Christmas spirit. That's what it's all about."

To volunteer, call Bray at 250-763-4905.
