Kelowna Rockets

KELOWNA - The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Kamloops Blazers 5-2 on Saturday night in Kelowna, opening up the season by winning both ends of a home and home series with the Blazers.

Tyson Baillie scored twice and added a pair of assists for the Rockets, who beat the Blazers by the same 5-2 score Friday night in Kamloops.

For the second straight night the Blazers opened the scoring before Kelowna took over the game. Down 1-0 in the second period, Nick Merkley and Cole Linaker scored second period goals to give the Rockets a 2-1 lead heading into the third period.

In the third period the Rockets' power play struck for two straight goals to put the game out of reach as Baillie and Madison Bowey made the game 4-1 and later Baillie added an empty net goal for a 5-2 win.

Jesse Lees chipped in with a pair of assists while Jordon Cooke improved to 2-and-0 on the season, facing 26 Kamloops' shots.

Attendance at Prospera Place was 5,384.

The Rockets are now off until next Saturday night when they play host to the Victoria Royals.
