Kelowna Rockets edge Ice

KELOWNA - The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Kootenay Ice 2-1 on Saturday night at Prospera Place in Kelowna, winning its sixth straight game and 15th out of the past 16 games.

Jackson Whistle was stellar in the Rockets net, stopping 30 of 31 shots to earn his sixth win of the season and Myles Bell scored the game winning goal midway through the third period to snap a 1-1 tie.

The win improved the Rockets record to 22-3-0-2 on the season as they head out on  a six game road trip prior to the club's Christmas break.

It was a tight game in Kelowna in front of 5,121 fans at Prospera Place. The Ice opened the scoring in the first period as Luke Philp blasted a power play marker, the only shot that would beat Whistle on the night.

In the second Carter Rigby pulled the Rockets even at 1-1 as he poked home his third marker of the season as the team's headed to the dressing room after two periods knotted at 1-1.

In the third period, the Rockets came out strong and took over the territorial play, pushing for the go ahead goal and Bell found it when he ripped home a quick wrist shot for his 10th goal of the season.

The Rockets will hop right on the team bus on Sunday morning, heading for Saskatchewan and a six game in seven night road trip that begins on Tuesday in Swift Current.

Kelowna will return home to Prospera Place on Dec. 27 when they host the Kamloops Blazers.
