VICTORIA - The Kelowna Rockets defeated the Victoria Royals 3-1 on Friday night, Nov. 28, in Victoria in the first of two games between the BC Division rivals.

Jackson Whistle was sensational in net as the Rockets won its fifth straight game and improved to a WHL-best 19-5-1-0 on the season.

Whistle stopped 34 of 35 shots as Victoria outshot Kelowna 35-23 in the game.

The Rockets opened up a 2-0 lead with a first period goal by Calvin Thurkauf and a second period marker by Tyson Baillie, his 17th of the season.

After the Royals made it 2-1 six minutes into the third, the Rockets got the insurance marker on a late power play from Justin Kirkland. Kirkland and Baillie each had a goal and an assist.

The Rockets and Royals meet again on Saturday night in Victoria before Kelowna returns home for three straight games.

On Wednesday the Rockets play host to Kootenay before Medicine Hat and Portland come to Kelowna next Friday and Saturday nights.
