KELOWNA - The Kelowna Rockets know how to welcome the new year, bringing their winning streak to 16 games in their first of 2014 by defeating the Portland Winterhawks 7-2 Thursday night in Portland.
Tyson Baillie and Myles Bell each scored twice and added two assists, while Jesse Lees, Carter Rigby and Ryan Olsen also scored for Kelowna.
The win was the Rockets second straight in Portland and moved the Rockets to 32-3-0-2 on the season in the third game of a four game road trip.
Kelowna outshot Portland 51-31 with Jordon Cooke earning the win in net.
The Rockets also beat Portland 9-3 on New Year's Eve.
Kelowna now moves on to a home and home series with the Vancouver Giants, beginning tonight in Vancouver before the team returns to Kelowna to host the Giants on Saturday night at Prospera Place.
