KELOWNA - Work will take place on several bridges, Lakeshore Road and Baron Road this week.
BRIDGE REHABILITATION WORK
Beginning Thursday, July 23 maintenance repair work will occur for the following bridges:
- Ellis Street over Mill Creek
- East Kelowna Road over Mission Creek
- City of Kelowna Works Yard over Mill Creek
The City of Kelowna inspects and repairs bridges as required annually and the work must be done during July and August to avoid disruption of spawning and habitat protection of fish bearing streams.
Short-term lane closures or detours will be in effect. Residents will be notified when repair work is to begin in their area.
For the purpose of public safety and quality control, traffic control personnel will be directing motorists and local residents around working crews.
LAKESHORE ROAD LANE RESTRICTIONS
Lakeshore Road between Dehart Road and Bellevue Creek Bridge will be single-lane alternating traffic on Thursday, July 23, between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. for culvert installation and tree removal.
Motorists can expect delays and are urged to plan ahead for extra commuting time. Pedestrian access will be available but cyclists are encouraged to use other routes due to uneven surfaces. Improvements to this section of Lakeshore Road will include sidewalks, curb and gutters, a multi-use pathway, on-road bike lanes and pedestrian and roadway lighting improvements. New deciduous trees will be planted in the boulevards.
People visiting the area are urged to pay attention to the signs and obey site safety personnel.
BARON ROAD CLOSURES
Between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m. Baron Road will be closed between Dilworth Drive and Underhill Street for paving on:
- Thursday, July 23
- Monday, July 27
- Tuesday, July 28
Detour routes will be clearly marked and traffic safety personnel will be on site directing traffic. Access to residences in the area will be accommodated.
Transit routes serving this area may experience delays, with bus stops within the construction area, near Superstore, periodically closed. Visit bctransit.com/regions/kel for schedules and plan travel accordingly.
