Kelowna report shows commercial projects rebound in 2012

According to a recent report Kelowna had more commercial buildings go up in 2012 than in the last 10 years. Not since 2003 has the city seen such levels of commercial development.

Roughly 471,793 square feet of commercial space was added to the city last year. Over half of that development was in Kelowna's City Centre which includes the Capri/Landmark Urban Centre. The single largest commercial project in that area was a 5-storey parkade built for the Landmark VI building.

The 2012 Development Statistics Report was presented to Kelowna's city councillors this afternoon. It measures the number of building permits for each sector including residential, institutional, industrial and commercial.

The number of building permits issued for residential, institutional and industrial projects were less significant, falling short of annual averages.
