Kelowna police arrest brazen truck thief

FILE PHOTO

KELOWNA - An idling truck without a driver looked like a perfect opportunity for a thief, except for one thing: The passenger.

The Toyota Tundra pickup truck was left running in a church parking lot on June Springs Road at 8:46 p.m. last night, Aug. 21 when the thief jumped in the driver's side, says Kelowna RCMP Const. Jesse O'Donaghey in a release.

"The suspect allegedly reached across, opened the passenger side door of the vehicle and pushed the woman passenger out before fleeing the area," he says.

She wasn't injured, but she did alert the truck's owner and the police quick enough for them track it to a home on Prospect Road. They arrested a 27-year-old man of no fixed address without incident and he was held in custody until his court date. Police also seized the truck for forensic examination.

Anyone with any additional information is asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300. Remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, leaving a tip online at www.crimestoppers.net or by texting your tip to CRIMES (274637) ktown.
