Kelowna RCMP have a man in custody after an overnight crime spree that started in Coldstream and finally ended in Rutland.

One June 16, around 11:30 p.m., North Okanagan RCMP arrived at the Kalamalka Lake lookout in Coldstream, where a man stole a vehicle at gunpoint, according to an RCMP news release.

A couple was in their car at the lookout when an unknown man pointed what appeared to be a handgun at them.

He set fire to the SUV he had arrived with, then fled in the couples' Camaro with personal items he had stolen from them, according to the RCMP release.

Kelowna RCMP then received reports that the stolen vehicle was in the Rutland area, just after 12 a.m., where they "flooded the area" and found it heading south on Glenmore Road.

"The suspect vehicle fled at a high rate of speed when an officer attempted to stop it," Kelowna RCMP spokesperson, Cpl. Jocelyn Noseworthy said in the release. "The Camaro was located, abandoned on Highpointe Drive a short time later."

Officers contained the area and searched, where they first found an imitation handgun. A 44-year-old Kelowna man was arrested without incident several blocks away, according to the release.

The suspect is facing multiple potential charges, including armed robbery and flight from police. He remains in custody as he waits a court appearance and an approval of charges from the B.C. Prosecution Service.
