KELOWNA - It’s back to school for artists too – registration for the Kelowna Art Gallery’s fall art classes and workshops for youth and adults is now underway.

Don’t miss your chance to take part in these high-quality, professionally instructed classes that run from September through December of 2016. People registering before Sept. 4, 2016 will receive a 10 per cent discount on fees.

You can sign up for painting in acrylics or watercolours, to drawing, cartooning, working with mixed media, or even modern calligraphy. Local professional artists Amy Burkard, Kendra Dixson, Jim Elwood, Ross Ladell, Linda Lovisa, Marzio Manderioli, Liz Ranney, Rena Warren, and Nicole Young, will lead the classes and workshops.

“Our focus is helping people to access and channel their creativity, as well as showing them how rewarding it can be to participate in the visual arts,” Laura Wyllie of the Kelowna Art Gallery said.

Most classes run for six weeks, and cater to both absolute beginners, as well as hose of intermediate skill level. Beginners will learn the basic principles of their preferred medium, while also discussing, exploring, and expressing themselves through art. More advanced students will build on their existing skills through creative exercises to develop their abilities. Participants in all classes will complete and take home a number of works of art. Instruction by the Gallery’s art teachers is supportive, motivating, and inspiring.

The cost for each six-week-long series of classes is $160.00 for the general public, and $130.00 for members of the Kelowna Art Gallery.

In October and November, the Gallery will also be hosting a number of special weekend workshops including:

  • Sculptural Felt Forms, led by artist Amy Burkard
  • Watercolour Workshop, led by artist Linda Lovisa
  • Beginner Caricature Workshop, led by artist Marzio Manderioli
  • Modern Calligraphy for Beginners, led by Nicole Young

The cost for these workshops ranges from $70.00 to $105.00 for the general public, and $55.00 to $90.00 for members of the Kelowna Art Gallery.

New this fall are our Maker Workshops led by artist Ross Ladell that will be held on Thursday evenings. These workshops are open to people of all ages and will tackle intriguing projects such as designing your own t-shirt, creating a drawing robot, and creating your own mini lit-up marquee sign. Maker Workshops cost $25.00 per workshop ($20.00 for members) and $125.00 ($100.00 for members) for the entire six-class series.

A full listing and description of available classes can be found on the Gallery’s website.

The Kelowna Art Gallery is located at 1315 Water Street in the heart of the Cultural District in downtown Kelowna.
