It's summer for school zone speed limits

THOMPSON-OKANAGAN - With classes cancelled due to the teacher's strike you might be wondering if school zone speed limits are still in effect until the end of the school year.

"As far as I'm aware school zones are only in effect when school is in session," RCMP Const. Kris Clark says.

Even though schools are effectively closed, Clark says drivers should still be on the lookout for children in the area who may be going onto school property for various reasons. For example, many students will write essential exams over the next couple of weeks while others may be returning to gather their belongings. Also, some private schools are still in session and not affected by the strike.

Clark also says to be cautious because there are more pedestrians than usual because of active picketing.
