Investigation into fatal Oliver crash continues

The intersection of Fairview Road and Highway 97 in Oliver was the scene of a fatal pedestrian accident Tuesday morning.

OLIVER - Police continue their investigation into a pedestrian collision that took the life of a woman in Oliver Tuesday morning.

Emergency crews responded to the scene at the corner of Fairview Road and Highway 97 at 6:21 a.m. Tues., Nov. 25. A 73-year-old woman recently identified as Oliver resident Betty Anstey, was struck by a northbound vehicle while apparently attempting to cross Highway 97, according to an RCMP media release.

Witnesses say shortly after the initial contact, a second northbound vehicle also struck the pedestrian, who at the time was lying on the road. The second vehicle continued in a northbound direction without stopping.

A 46-year-old Oliver man who is identified as a suspect attended Oliver RCMP detachment Tuesday night and was released without charges as the investigation continues.

Police would like to speak with anyone who witnessed the accident or has any information. Citizens should contact the Oliver RCMP at 250-498-3422,  or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
