iN PHOTOS: Kamloops's first snowfall of the season

There was snow falling in higher elevation neighbourhoods in Kamloops, Friday, Oct. 13, 2017. Pictured in this photo is Dalgleish Drive looking southwest.

KAMLOOPS - Residents living in the higher elevation areas of Kamloops woke up to a wintery surprise this morning.

Snow blanketed parts of Aberdeen, Dufferin and Upper Sahali on the South Shore this morning, Oct. 13, as temperatures hovered around the freezing point.

From Albert McGowan Park to the hills towering above the city, white flakes were seen lightly falling early today. Some vehicles driving from Aberdeen to the city centre were still covered in snow.

It's an early reminder to be prepared for winter conditions on the roads and highways.

The Coquihalla Highway is closed southbound at Kamloops this morning as winter driving conditions cause havoc on roadways. There's currently a detour available through Highway 1, but there's no estimated time of opening for Highway 5.
