KELOWNA – Despite a 400 hectare wildfire burning in West Kelowna, the 8th annual Kelowna Dragon Boat Festival went ahead as planned last weekend.

The festival is made up of a series of races where teams of amateur rowers decorate boats and compete for the fastest time.

Teams from B.C. and Alberta came together off Waterfront Park over the two day festival, which included live music, vendors and a beer garden.

The Okanagan Dragon Boat Racing Club’s Rogue Dragons finished only three seconds behind Storm Edmonton, who won the mixed division race with a time of two minutes and five seconds.

Lightning Edmonton, another team from Alberta, also took the women’s division, followed closely once again by another Kelowna team, Fire on Water.

Here are some photos from the 2014 Dragon Boat Festival.
