Impaired driver wreaks path of destruction in Penticton

An impaired driver caused damage to multiple vehicles before RCMP caught up with him on June 11, 2015.

PENTICTON - An impaired driver operating his vehicle “like he was playing bumper cars” ran amok through Penticton streets.

Penticton RCMP Staff Sgt. Kurt Lozinski says police arrested the driver of a white BMW yesterday afternoon, June 11, for impaired driving on Wilson Street in the city’s south end.

Lozinski says no police chase was involved in the incident, but reports of erratic driving were received from one end of the city to the other.

“It was a case of us trying to catch up with him. I believe the first call we received was in the Riverside area, and the suspect was eventually arrested on Wilson Street, at the other end of the city,” he says.

The driver hit a number of parked vehicles on multiple streets as he made his way through the city and was forced to stop due to the damage he caused to his own vehicle.

“It looked like a game of bumper cars on the street. He was definitely intoxicated,” Lozinski says.

The Penticton man has since been released from custody with a court date in July.

Lozinski says he is grateful for the support received from the public during the incident.
