WHL Roundup: Justin Guetierrez scores hat trick in Hurricanes win over Ice

CRANBROOK, B.C. - Justin Guetierrez scored a hat trick as the Lethbridge Hurricanes held on to beat the Kootenay Ice 3-2 on Saturday night in Western Hockey League action.

Brayden Burke and Egor Babenko had two assists each for the Hurricanes (17-9-0), who won their fourth straight.

Matt Alfaro and Dylan Stewart scored for Kootenay (6-19-2).

Stuart Skinner made 21 saves for the win as Wyatt Hoflin kicked out 40 shots in a losing effort.

Lethbridge went 1 for 5 on the power play while the Ice scored twice on three opportunities.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Ryan Kubic stopped all 34 shots he faced as Vancouver blanked the Winterhawks.

Chase Lang and Tyler Benson scored for the Giants (6-16-4).

Adin Hill turned away 36 shots for Portland (12-11-0).

SASKATOON — Andrew Koep scored the winner on the power play as Edmonton got past the Blades for its third straight win.

Brandon Baddock opened the scoring for the Oil Kings (11-14-3) in the first before Colton Kehler added insurance late in the third.

Terrell Draude had a goal seven seconds into the second period for Saskatoon (10-12-3).

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. — Austin Glover had a power-play goal late in the third that proved to be the winner as Prince Albert edged the Broncos.

Simon Stransky evened the game at 1-1 with his 11th of the season earlier in the third for the Raiders (16-7-3).

Jake DeBrusk scored late in the first period for Swift Current (8-15-3).

RED DEER, Alta. — Conner Bleackley's power-play goal in the second period stood as the winner as the Rebels held on to beat Regina.

Jeff de Wit opened the scoring with a short-handed goal for Red Deer (19-8-0), which won its third straight.

Lane Zablocki responded with a power-play goal of his own for the Pats (12-11-2).

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. — Jayce Hawryluk had two goals and an assist to lead Brandon past the Tigers.

John Quenneville and Reid Duke also scored for the Wheat Kings (15-8-2).

Matt Bradley, Max Gerlach and Chad Butcher supplied the offence for Medicine Hat (7-13-3).

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. — Jared Bethune scored twice and added an assist as the Cougars routed Kamloops.

Brad Morrison had a goal and two assists for Prince George (13-9-2), which also got goals from Colby McAuley, Luke Harrison, Aaron Boyd and Kody McDonald. Jansen Harkins had three helpers.

Quinn Benjafield, Spencer Bast and Dawson Davidson found the back of the net for the Blazers (11-9-3), who suffered their first regulation-time loss in 12 games.

SPOKANE, Wash. — Dominic Zwerger had two goals and an assist to lead the Chiefs past Tri-City.

Ethan McIndoe, Jaret Anderson-Dolan, Kailer Yamamoto and Curtis Miske also scored for Spokane (14-9-3).

Jordan Topping, Michael Rasmussen, Parker Wotherspoon and Parker Bowles chipped in for the Americans (10-16-1).

VICTORIA — Matthew Phillips had a goal and three assists as the Royals handed Kelowna its first regulation loss in 12 games.

Joe Hicketts, Alex Forsberg, Tyler Soy and Regan Nagy rounded out the attack for Victoria (17-8-2). Jack Walker tacked on three assists.

Cole Linaker scored for the Rockets (19-6-1).

KENT, Wash. — Noah Gregor scored his second power-play goal of the game in overtime as Moose Jaw edged the Thunderbirds.

Tanner Jeannot had the other for the Warriors (13-9-5).

Ryan Gropp and Mathew Barzal found the back of the net for Seattle (16-7-2).
