WHL Roundup: Rudolfs Balcers scores twice in Blazers win over Blades

KAMLOOPS, B.C. - Rudolfs Balcers scored twice and added an assist as the Kamloops Blazers downed the Saskatoon Blades 5-1 on Friday night in Western Hockey League action.

Deven Sideroff had a goal and two assists, with Ondrej Vala and Spencer Bast also chipping in for Kamloops (6-6-0).

Mason McCarty tied the game at 1-1 in the first period for the Blades (6-4-1).

Connor Ingram made 28 saves for the win as Logan Flodell stopped 24 shots in defeat.

Neither team scored on six power play chances.

WHEAT KINGS 6 HURRICANES 1

BRANDON, Man. — Kale Clague and Tanner Kaspick had a goal and two assists apiece as the Wheat Kings downed Lethbridge.

Ty Lewis, Cole Reinhardt, Reid Duke and James Shearer supplied the rest of the offence for Brandon (4-3-2). Jordan Papirny made 32 saves in net.

Brayden Burke scored on the power play in the first period for the Hurricanes (5-6-2), who got 32 saves from Stuart Skinner.

Brandon's Tyler Coulter was ejected in the first period after a major penalty for checking from behind.

OIL KINGS 3 RAIDERS 1

EDMONTON — Trey Fix-Wolansky had a goal and two assists while Patrick Dea turned away 32 shots as the Oil Kings toppled Prince Albert.

Will Warm and Aaron Irving, on the power play, also scored for Edmonton (4-5-2).

Parker Kelly opened the scoring in the first period for the Raiders (3-6-1). Ian Scott kicked out 35-of-38 shots in defeat.

ROCKETS 4 AMERICANS 2

KELOWNA, B.C. — Jake Kryski and Riley Stadel scored in the first minute of the game as the Rockets toppled Tri-City.

Nolan Foote and Calvin Thurkauf increased the lead for Kelowna (5-7-0) to 4-0 within the first five minutes of the first. Michael Herringer made 18 saves in net.

Brendan O'Reilly and Maxwell James responded for the Americans (6-5-0). Rylan Parenteau was pulled after allowing all four goals on seven shots in 4:48. Beck Warm made 34 saves in relief.

TIGERS 4 ICE 1

CRANBROOK, B.C. — Steven Owre scored the winner late in the first period as Medicine Hat got past the Ice.

Matt Bradley, John Dahlstrom and Mark Rassell also chipped in while Mason Shaw tacked on three helpers for the Tigers (8-3-1). Nick Schneider made 25 saves.

Matt Alfaro had the lone goal for Kootenay (1-7-4), with Jakob Walter kicking out 33-of-36 shots in net.

REBELS 4 HITMEN 1

RED DEER, Alta. — Riley Lamb made 31 saves and Michael Spacek scored the winner as the Rebels downed Calgary for their fourth straight win.

Alexander Alexeyev, Colton Bobyk, on the power play, and Brandon Hagel, into an empty net, provided the rest of the offence for Red Deer (6-3-2).

Jakob Stukel had a goal at 1:18 of the first period for the Hitmen (3-4-1). Cody Porter stopped 37-of-40 shots in defeat.

PATS 4 CHIEFS 2

REGINA — Austin Wagner struck twice and Jordan Hollett stopped 28 shots as the Pats doubled up Spokane.

Jake Leschyshyn and Luc Smith had the others for Regina (8-0-3), which remains undefeated in regulation through the first 11 games.

Custis Miske and Ethan McIndoe found the back of the net for the Chiefs (3-5-2), with Jayden Sittler turning aside 29 shots.

THUNDERBIRDS 3 WINTERHAWKS 1

KENT, Wash. — Ethan Bear scored the winner on the power play and Rylan Toth made 32 saves as the Thunderbirds beat Portland.

Nolan Volcan and Matthew Wedman, into an empty net, also had goals for Seattle (3-4-1).

Skyler McKenzie cut the deficit to 2-1 with a power-play goal in the second for the Winterhawks (8-5-0). Cole Kehler stopped 25 shots in defeat.

ROYALS 9 BRONCOS 2

VICTORIA — Dante Hannoun had two goals and an assist as the Royals dominated Swift Current for their third consecutive win.

Matthew Phillips, Regan Nagy and Ryan Peckford scored once and tacked on two helpers apiece for Victoria (7-5-0). Mitchell Prowse, Jack Walker, Eric Florchuk and Marsel Ibragimov rounded out the attack. Griffen Outhouse made 25 saves.

Artyom Minulin and Aleksi Heponiemi scored for the Broncos (8-4-1). Taz Burman kicked out 14-of-19 shots in 16:23 while taking the loss. Travis Child went the rest of the way and stopped 24 shots.
