U.S. beats Canada to capture third straight World Sledge Hockey Challenge

CHARLOTTETOWN - Brody Roybal had two goals and an assist as the United States defeated Canada 5-2 Saturday in the World Sledge Hockey Challenge final.

After Canada's Liam Hickey scored the only goal of the first period, the United States broke the game open in the second.

Kevin McKee, Paul Schaus and Roybal scored within the first 3:02 of the second to surge into the lead. Roybal's second of the game at 11:40 game the Americans a 4-1 lead.

Brad Bowden got a goal back for Canada at 12:01 of the period, but Declan Farmer restored the Americans' three-goal cushion with a power-play goal at 14:22.

"We had some good hockey games but we didn't get what we wanted today," Canadian captain Greg Westlake said. "We have to use this as fuel for the rest of the year. We still have a world championship, we still have a tournament in Italy coming up. We still have a lot of games and hope we get a few more chances at them (U.S.)."

Canada outshot the Americans 7-0 in the third period, but American goalie Steve Cash stopped them all to preserve the win.

Cash ended up with 12 saves on 14 shots. The United States have won three straight World Sledge Hockey Challenge titles, and four of the last five.

Canadian goalie Corbin Watson stopped nine of 14 shots.

Norway rallied for a 2-1 victory over South Korea in the bronze medal game.
