KAMLOOPS – Motorists looking to travel between Kamloops and Vernon are being advised Highway 97 will be closed for 12 hours overnight starting at 7 p.m., Monday, Nov. 10.

The railway crossing between Monte Lake and Westwold will be replaced, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Transportation.

The construction will block traffic in both directions. It will reopen at 7 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 11.

Since there is no local detour available, drivers can reach their destination by travelling through Salmon Arm or via the Coquihalla Highway. Both detours add approximately two hours of driving time.

Through the Salmon Arm detour, drivers can still expect to see construction. Parts of Highway 1 near Chase will be under repair with 70 km/hr speed limits.

Drivers are currently being advised of the change with banner message signs.

Traffic control will be advising drivers well in advance on the highway in the hours before the closure Monday night.
