Police say a man in a silver/grey van who offered a ride to young Summerland boy had no ill intentions and the event is not linked to recent similar incidences in Penticton.

Summerland RCMP received the report of the attempt from a local student Jan. 22. The boy said the van pulled up to him while he walked along Dale Meadows Road, and he was asked if he wanted a ride. The boy refused and the vehicle drove away. The van was driven by an older man and he was alone.

Police investigated and found the driver who said he offered the ride when he noticed the boy was visibly cold.

Penticton RCMP were told Jan. 10 two boys were approached by a younger man and woman in an older brown Ford truck along Hatfield Road. The boys had been tobogganing at Columbia Elementary School when they noticed the truck circling the area. Another attempt by a man and a woman in a grey truck was reported weeks before.
