Get ready to roll Penticton, the garbage carts are at the gates

FILE PHOTO-

PENTICTON - The City of Penticton is excited to announce that the first wave of new carts has arrived. Delivery will start ahead of schedule. Staff are working diligently to guarantee the new garbage, recycle, and yard waste carts will be ready to roll on Sept. 1 with an aim for delivery to be complete by mid-September.

To ensure a smooth transition to the new cart system, the City would like to pass along the following:

  1. Delivery companies will not be delivering all of the carts to each home at once; delivery will start with the garbage carts, then recycle, then yard waste. Delivery of the full cart package to your home will occur throughout the month of September.
  2. Start using your carts as soon as you receive them! If you have not received all of your carts on day of collection, use the carts you have received and put the rest of your material at the curb as you usually do (example: if you have received a garbage cart but no recycle cart, use the garbage cart for garbage, and a blue bag or bin for recycling).
  3. Look for the brochure that will accompany the garbage cart. It will be in a clear bag, tied to the handle. In the brochure, there will be general information about how to use the carts. There is a space on the back of the brochure to record the serial numbers found on your carts, recording this information on the brochure will help us to better serve you in case of lost or damaged carts.
  4. If you have recently (in the last two weeks) made a cart change out request, you may not receive the carts that you requested. We will change out your carts to the ones that you have requested in late September or early October.
  5. If you are not sure what to do with your old garbage cans? Check out the brochure accompanying the carts for information related to this and much more.

We are excited for the opportunity to provide a more efficient system for the collection of garbage, recycling, and yard waste. For further information, please call (250) 490-2500, or publicworks@penticton.ca
